Pros

  • Undersized but plays much bigger than his size.
  • Tough player.
  • Good speed downfield and good closing speed.
  • Runs well with receivers on deep routes and has the quickness to cover on shorter routes.
  • Closes quickly in off and press coverage.
  • Very good hip flexibility and is fluid when covering.
  • Transition is good with smooth pedal, and has great explosion in/out of breaks.
  • Has very good ball skills, able to locate the ball quickly and does a good job of attacking the ball in the air.
  • Very good read and recognition skills in man and zone coverage.
  • Excellent anticipation and instincts and sees the field.
  • Patient at the LOS, and physical, uses hands with good punch on reroutes and competes against bigger receivers.
  • Solid tackler for his size and does a good job of wrapping up and using his pads.
  • Shows good ability blitzing off the edge with good pursuit and from the slot as well.

Cons

  • Doesn’t have ideal size and does get pushed around a bit by bigger receivers.
  • Does more shuffling than pedaling which gets him in trouble at times.
  • Questionable hands, due to low interception totals.
  • A little over aggressive, grabs and holds a bit trying to stay close to receivers because of size.
  • Because of his size, has difficulty getting off blocks or setting the edge in run game.

Film Room

TSV videos provided by Draft Breakdown

1:01 Receiver blocks down, does a good filling and making good solid tackle.

2:54 Does a good job with his disguise from short side of field on corner blitz, gets the sack.

TSV videos provided by Draft Breakdown

0:21 Excellent job reading the receiver, breaking on the route and getting the PBU

2:10 Size is an issue - good pedal mirrors the route, but too small to get around the receiver to make the play.

TSV videos provided by Draft Breakdown

5:45 Playing slightly off trying to catch the receiver; because of the size disparity the receiver is able to push by getting behind him. He panics getting back to the receiver and gets the penalty.

Report

Although undersized, Verrett is a really tough player.  The former Horned Frog All-American is a solid tackler with very good cover skills.  He should be a major contributor early on in nickel/dime situations, due to exceptional quickness and good blitzing skills.
