***Scouting report prepared by former NY Jet/Houston Texan DB Marcus Coleman

  • Excellent size for an NFL CB at 6’0 200 pounds.
  • Uses his length well in press coverage and when playing the ball.
  • Good speed and acceleration downfield.
  • Runs well with receivers on deep routes and closes quickly when breaking on routes.
  • Excellent athlete with good leaping ability and quickness.
  • Has fluid hips with good change of direction.
  • Smooth backpedal, with good transition and explosion in/out of breaks.
  • Good read and recognition skills, with quick reaction in man and zone coverage.
  • Aggressive with good instincts.
  • Good patience at the LOS in press coverage, uses his hands and long arms well to reroute receivers.
  • Excellent ball skills, locates the ball quickly when in the air.
  • Attacks ball at highest point and competes through the play.
  • Excellent kick returner with big play and scoring ability.

  • At times will rely more on ability than technique. Technique needs to be implied on every play.
  • Better job using pads when tackling and not so many arm tackles.
  • Needs to be more disciplined in run game setting the edge.
  • Could be vulnerable to double moves because of aggressive style.

0:11 Does a good job staying square, rerouting the receiver, turns into him and "high points" the ball for the INT.

0:57 Shows inconsistency here. In off man coverage at 5 yds (no man’s land). Initially has inside leverage, WR pushes him outside and because cushion closed quickly he’s late reacting to the route.

4:43 In zone coverage, he shuffles, makes a good, quick read on the QB and makes the interception...House Call!

5:54 Playing backside zone, he loses leverage on TE because his eyes are in the backfield. Should read his keys, shuffle to keep outside leverage and carry the receiver since there is no #2 threat.

Gilbert is an exceptional athlete with great hands, good vision, speed and a knack for making big plays.
In 2014 the Cowboys All-American led the Big 12 with six interceptions and returned two for touchdowns. He’s also returned six kickoffs for touchdowns during his career at Oklahoma State.
The combination of corner covering ability, with return skills, will have teams excited, to say the least about Gilbert.
